Dues paid to the Chamber are NOT a charitable tax deduction
for the federal tax purposes. The Chamber is not a charity,
but serves as an advocacy organization for the business.
Portions of the dues paid to the San Luis Obispo Chamber of
Commerce may be deductible as an ordinary and necessary
business expense for federal income tax purposes. As
required by IRS regulations, the Chamber has estimated that
five percent (5%) of dues paid during the last fiscal year is not
deductible as a business expense because that amount is used
for grassroots, state and federal lobbying. Ninety five percent
(95%) of membership dues may be deductible as a business
expense.
