SUBJECT: Amendment to contract between the Public Employees' Retirement
System and the City of San Luis Obispo to add the third level of the
1959 Survivor Benefit.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Final Passage of Ordinance No. 1152 amending the contract between
PERS and the City to add the third level of the 1959 Survivor Benefit.
BACKGROUND: At its regular meeting of October 3, 1989, the City Council passed to
print on a unanimous vote and ordinance authorizing an amendment
to the PERS contract which provides for an increase in- benefit for
survivors of City employee who die prior to retirement.
There has been no public comment in support of or opposed to the
ordinance.
The Council must now vote again to give final approval to the
ordinance before it can take effect.
ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve the ordinance enabling the amendment to the PERS
Contract.
2. Reject the ordinance, and return it to the Personnel Director
with further Council direction. The current PERS contract and
benefit levels would remain in effect.
3. Take no action on the item at this time with no changes to the
survivors benefit.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Final passage of ordinance No. 1152 amending the contract between
PERS and the City to add the third level of the 1959 Survivor' Benefit.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AUTHORIZ-
ING AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AND THE BOARD
OF ADMINISTRATION OF THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES '
RETIREMENT SYSTEM.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as
follows:
Section 1. That an amendment to the Contract between the City
Council of the City of San Luis Obispo and the Board of
Administration, California Public Employees' Retirement System is
hereby authorized, a copy of said amendment being attached hereto,
marked "Exhibit All , and by such reference made a part hereof as
though herein set out in full.
Section 2 . The Mayor of the City of San Luis Obispo is hereby
authorized, empowered, and directed to execute said amendment for and
on behalf of 'said Agency.
Section 3 . A summary of this ordinance, approved by the City
Attorney, together with the ayes and noes, shall be published at
least five (5) days prior to its final passage in the
Telegram-Tribune, a newspaper published and circulated in said City,
and the same shall go into effect immediately upon its final
passage. A copy of the full text of this ordinanceshall be on file
in the office of the City Clerk on and after the date following
introduction and passage to print and shall be available to any
interested member of the public.
INTRODUCED AND PASSED TO PRINT by the Council of the City of San
Luis Obispo at a meeting held on the 19th day of September, 1989.
