RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Ordinance No . 1580, amending Chapter 2 .04 of the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code t o
restore regular Council meeting dates to the first and third Tuesday of the month and meeting tim e
to 6 :00 P .M .
DISCUSSIO N
At the May 8, 2012 Council Meeting, Council reviewed and provided direction to staff to amend th e
Council's Policies and Procedures Manual . One of those changes directed by Council was to
change the dates of the Council meetings from the first, second and third Tuesday of the month to
the first and third Tuesday of the month . Each regular meeting will now to begin at 6 :00 P .M .
Pursuant to Charter Section 502, that modification to regular meeting dates and times must be mad e
by ordinance . The Attachment to this report is a proposed Ordinance amending Section 2 .04 .010 o f
the Municipal Code to provide the change to Council meeting dates . The amendment will becom e
effective 30 days after its adoption.
FISCAL IMPAC T
There will be an annual savings of approximately $13,000 by reducing one meeting a month .
ALTERNATIVE S
Council could decide to not change the regular Council meeting dates and continue holdin g
meetings on the first, second and third Tuesday of the month and continue to begin at 7 :00 P .M .

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISP O
AMENDING SAN LUIS OBISPO MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 2 .04 (COUNCIL
MEETING) TO MODIFY REGULAR MEETING DATE S
WHEREAS,at a regular meeting of the City Council held on May 8, 2012, the Counci l
reviewed its Council Policies and Procedures and provided direction to revise certain provision s
of that manual ; and
WHEREAS,Council desires to change its regular meeting dates from the first, secon d
and third Tuesday of the month to the first and third Tuesday of the month ; an d
WHEREAS,Council desires to change its regular meeting time from 7 :00 P .M . to 6 :0 0
P .M .; and
WHEREAS,San Luis Obispo Charter Section 502 requires that the Council shal l
provide by ordinance for the time and place of holding its meetings .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Lui s
Obispo as follows :
SECTION 1 .Section 2 .04 .010 of Chapter 2 .04 (COUNCIL MEETINGS) of the Sa n
Luis Obispo Municipal Code is hereby amended and re-enacted in full to read as follows :
2 .04 .010
Time—Place.
The regular meetings of the council shall be held at the City Hall, 990 Palm Street, in th e
city, on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the hour of six p .m . (6 :00 p .m.). In
the event that a regular meeting of the council falls on a legal holiday, then the regula r
meeting shall be held at the same place and time on the next succeeding working day .

SECTION 2 .Ordinance Number 1529 (2012 Series) is hereby rescinded and supersede d
to the extent inconsistent herewith .
SECTION 3 .A summary of this ordinance, together with the names of Counci l
members voting for and against, shall be published at least five (5) days prior to its final passage ,
in The Tribune, a newspaper published and circulated in this City . This ordinance shall go int o
effect at the expiration of thirty (30) days after its final passage .
