The CA Cities Brown Act Guide which is the gold standard for understanding responsibilities related to the Act. 4 5 Brown Act Non-Agenda Items (pg. 34) •The Brown Act generally prohibits any action or discussion of items not on the posted agenda. Although the Committee will not take action on items presented during the Public Comment Period, the Chair may direct staff to place an item on a future agenda for discussion. Comments are limited to 3-minutes, per person. 10 CONSENT ITEM(S) Matters appearing on the Consent Calendar are expected to be non-controversial and will be acted upon at one time. A member of the public may request the Tree Committee to pull an item for discussion. The public may comment on any and all items on the Consent Agenda within the three-minute time limit. Item 6a. Arborist Report Receive a brief update from Urban Forester Program Coordinator / City Arborist, Walter Gault. 20 Arborist Report 2025 Western Chapter ISA Conference Update Climate Ready Trees Study •Crown width and density have most significant effects on cooling •For every sq. m increase in canopy, temperature drops by a degree (range 6-30 degrees) •2 medium trees may be more effective than 1 large tree 21 Arborist Report Diversity is the cornerstone of resiliency Important to reintroduce and trial new species •Quercus hypoleucoides (Silverleaf) •Eucalyptus torquata (Coral Gum) (Los Osos: LOVR and tenth) •Hymenosporum flavum (Sweetshade) (Torro and Palm) (1900 SLD) More than just drought tolerance •Irrigating trees increases their resilience against structure fires. 22 The next Tree Committee Meeting will be held on May 19, 2025 @ 5:30 p.m.
