Subject:10/28 City Council - Item 5a - SLO Chamber of Commerce
Good evening, Mayor Stewart and Councilmembers,
We are looking forward to tomorrow evening's City Council meeting. I will be there on behalf of the SLO
Chamber to share our board's position on Item 5a, which includes:
understanding that there is a need for data-informed decisions, we are supportive of the City
creating a private database of rental units through something like a rental registry, as long as it
doesn't increase City costs and housing red tape,
supporting policies that ensure the quality of housing needed to attract a talented local
workforce,
warning against rules beyond California's Tenants Protection Act to avoid creating more
challenges for building housing in SLO, and,
increasing legal education for both tenants and landlords.
Thank you for your hard work on this, and I look forward to the discussion on this item tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Rachel Whalen
