Re: Support for the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art Expansion
Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
As a local business owner, resident, and the founder of Granada Hotel & Bistro, I am writing in strong support
of the City’s financial participation in the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art (SLOMA) expansion.
SLOMA’s planned expansion will connect its historic home overlooking Mission Plaza to new adjacent spaces
on Higuera Street—creating a unified campus that links two of downtown’s most vital pedestrian corridors.
This thoughtful project will bring energy and connectivity to the heart of our city.
As a hotel and restaurant in the downtown core, we see firsthand how important cultural anchors are to the
health of our local economy. The expanded museum will not only attract more visitors but also provide
compelling, everyday reasons for people to come downtown—to gather, to be inspired, and to engage with the
arts. These are the very ingredients that sustain local businesses and foster a vibrant community year -round.
Beyond the economic impact, SLOMA’s expansion will deepen cultural access and educational opportunity for
people of all ages. It will provide space for major exhibitions, community workshops, and art programs for local
schools—making the arts an accessible and integral part of life in San Luis Obispo.
This is a project that reflects the best of our city’s values: creativity, connection, and shared investment in the
cultural and economic vitality of our community. I urge the City to support SLOMA’s expansion and help
unlock the matching funds needed to make this vision a reality.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Walker
