Subject:Public Records Request – Citations Under SLO Municipal Code § 9.40.010 (“Public
Benches”)
Dear San Luis Obispo Police Department Records Division and City Clerk,
This is a request under the California Public Records Act (Gov. Code §6250 et seq.).
I am requesting records showing how many citations have been issued under San Luis Obispo Municipal
Code § 9.40.010 (“Public Benches”) for the period 2019–2024.
Specifically, please provide:
1. The total number of citations issued under § 9.40.010 each year;
2. Of those, how many were issued to individuals identified in the police records system as:
- “Transient,” “Unhoused,” “Homeless,” or “No Fixed Address”; and
- Individuals with a listed residential address;
3. The general location or area of each citation (if available);
4. Any summary reports or internal data that include housing status, even in aggregate form.
Please note that I am not requesting any personally identifying information. Aggregate or anonymized
data will be sufficient. If the Police Department tracks this information using its Records Management
System (RMS), please provide an extract or summary report from that system.
If any portion of this request is unclear or too broad, please let me know so I can narrow it.
