Subject:Funding for SLOMA Downtown Expansion
To Mayor Stewart, Vice Mayor Shoresman, and Council Members Boswell, Francis and Marx,
As a 30 + year resident and longtime supporter of our downtown, I'm beyond excited about the planned
expansion of the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art into the adjacent buildings that make up the Network
Mall. The revitalization of that area and the connection and community that it can bring to the downtown
core is an opportunity not to be squandered. Please strongly consider an investment of our city funds into this
expansion.
I remember sitting in on community meetings years ago where the city asked community members to input
into what the downtown could look like. A re-occurring theme that was expressed was the connection of
Higuera Street to Mission Plaza , and this project helps facilitate that vision. Much thought and expertise have
gone into creating a space that is inviting and inspiring and will be a great draw for visitors and residents alike,
of all ages. The expanded museum will also help secure major art exhibitions to SLO that previously were not
a viable option for our museum.
Thank you for your continued support for our fabulous downtown...and funding for this project.
