Dear Planning Commissioners,
Ithought Icould beattonight'smeeting toprovide publiccomment sodidn'temail you beforehand, but
unfortunately was notable tomake it. However, Iwatched themeeting online. Thank you somuch for
addressing theneighborhood issues, especially relatedtoCalPoly and illegal fraternities forthe major
city goals. Iamhopeful that wemay beable toturn thetide and start tomake progress!
Commissioner Houghton again brought uptheidea ofthesummit togetdifferent groups together to
discuss and solvethis issue. Ilove theidea and hope that itispossible. Ihave been attending the
Student Community Liason Committee (SCLC) for overayearand unfortunately, CalPoly has notbeen
willing toaddress theissue, sothat does notseem tobethebest forum. The City (codeenforcement)
continues tosay theydon'thave adequate staff. And theCity Council says it's "working with CalPoly"
and wishesitwould takemore responsibility foritsfraternities. So theproblem isnotgetting solved.
Areporter fortheTribune has been investigating thesituation indepth and hopefully, thestory willbe
published inthe next month orso. She hashad difficulty getting information from Cal Poly because it
claims that fraternities areindependent oftheuniversity. Perhaps thepublicity, and yourencouragement
forthecity toencourage Cal Poly tohelp solve this problem, willfinally cause some movement toward a
solution.
Ijust wanted toexpress mysincere appreciation toeach ofyou.
With Gratitude,
Kathie Walker
