Iamwriting to youasaconcerned and negatively impacted resident inthe Alta Vista neighborhood. I
urge younot toapprove therenewal (and new approvals) offraternities in myneighborhood. Asa
resident ofSan Luis Obispo, Ihave become increasingly and regularly affected byhigh volume noise, and
broken glasson thestreets fromweekend (and mid-week) gatherings ofparty-goers that livethelifeof
getting drunk, yelling atthe topoftheirlungs, and disrespecting neighbors and theneighborhood welive
in, even when asked respectfully todecrease noise levels, meand myfamily, including ourCal Poly
student daughter, arefeeling stressed bythesituation. While Idon'thavean ultimate solution tothis
epidemic, Iknow that approving thecontinuation oflaw-breaking organizations willnotbetheanswer
moving forward. Iecho other impacted, non-student residents inmyneighborhood when they cite
examples oflarge crowds, loud music, and intoxicated individuals carrying on with disrespectful
behavior that nofamily would want tobesubject to. Landlords who rent tothese organizations and
tenants look theother way and letproperties deteriorate while thecongestion adds todeclining living
standards. Ihavewitnessed many ofmygood neighbors leaving this area over theyears due tothis very
unfortunate state. Ihave even met both CalPoly and Cuesta students that don'twant tolive inmy
neighborhood because ofthis disruptive climate. Asother concerned neighbors have expressed,
enforcement iskey totamping down theproblem, yet, with somany satelite houses throughout the
neighborhood, agoodpercentage ofGreek Organizations have events without permits (such as
rushes, meetings, and parties) with large and frequently unruly gatherings. Obvious signs ofthese
gatherings, besides thevery large number ofattendees, include drinking game tables infront yards,
scattered bottles and plastic cups inyards/streets and sidewalks; empty kegs and trash-littered front
yards, safety fencing, large plastic sheets draped across driveways ; couches and living roomfurniture in
front yards forparties. Signage isalso often quite visible without permits. Overall, theonly thing that
seems todetour this behavior iscalling thepolice fornoise violations and citing unruly gatherings. I
believe this willonly continue with theapproval of Fraternities and approval byignoring theoccupancy of
their satellite houses. Please dosomething toaddress this quality of lifeissuehere inSan Luis Obispo.
Our Alta Vista neighborhood and myfamily'squality oflifedepends onit.
Respectfully,
Anonymous Alta Vista Neighbor due tofear offurther retribution
