Dear City Council,
I am writing today to express my concern that the bike pump track and skills track included in Bid
Alternate 3 is not being awarded as part of the Righetti Park contract.
I know that the city and its residents have many desires for what is included in this park, and that they are
faced with the reality of budget constraints.
I ask that the city strongly reconsider the inclusion of Alternate 3 in the contract as a skills facility of this
nature is an offering currently missing from our city parks, while the other proposed facilities exist at
several other city parks.
Inclusion of a bike pump track and skills track would have tremendous positive impact for all but
especially the youth, as there are a lot of kids on that side of town who would likely be able to access this
area via bike (rather than having to be driven somewhere).
Unlike team sports, cycling is accessible not only as a community activity but also as a solo activity -
which again, has a huge potential impact for kids, especially teenagers and young adults.
At a minimum, I ask that they city make a commitment to ensuring that any supplemental funds in the
city budget next year be allocated to ensuring the bridge is installed to provide access across the creek
as part of this project to ensure that the bike park can be constructed if funding becomes available in the
future, or through a community effort.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Alexandra Andersson
