Dear City Clerk -
Would you kindly forward the letter attached below to the SLO City Council?
This letter pertains to the Council's December 2, 2025 meeting agenda Item
6a) "Consideration of an Ordinance and Resolution to adopt updates to the
Historic Preservation Ordinance and Historic Context Statement"
We would also like this letter to be placed in the City's Correspondence File.
Thank you!

Re: December 2, 2025 Council Meeting Public Hearing Item 6a) "Consideration of
an Ordinance and Resolution to adopt updates to the Historic Preservation
Ordinance and Historic Context Statement"
From: Allan Cooper, Secretary Save Our Downtown
Date: December 2, 2025
Honorable Mayor and Council Members -
Our first concern appears to be a typographical error. Per staff report page 438 of Item
6A (see below), shouldn’t the dates highlighted below be 2026 instead?
Next Steps:
Provided the Council approves the recommended actions to introduce the ordinance
and approve a resolution for the updated Historic Preservation Ordinance and Historic
Context Statement, a 2nd reading is scheduled for the Council’s consideration to adopt
the updated Historic Preservation Ordinance on January 13, 2025. If adopted, the
ordinance will become effective on February 13, 2025. Staff will initiate Phase 2 of the
project to review the current Historic Resources Inventory and survey for new potential
resources in the mid 2026 timeframe.
Our second concern is what we perceived to be a major omission in your staff report.
Per staff report page 484 of Its 6A:
The original section #14.01.070 (evaluation criteria for historic resource designation)
which has been completely deleted will be replaced by section #14.01.055 (historic
gardens, site features, signs and other cultural resources). But this section has been
entirely deleted as well. So when will we see the new section #14.01.055 that will be the
revised evaluation criteria for historic resource designation?
Thank you for taking the time to address this matter.
