Subject:Righetti park - Bicycle Pump Track / secure e-bike parking downtown
Dear City Council,
I am writing to express my concern that the bike pump tack and skills track included in Bid
Alternate Three at Righetti park is not being awarded as part of the Righetti Park contract.
This is an opportunity to promote bike riders in SLO - city well suited for bike transportation.
I ask that the city strongly re-consider the inclusion of Alternate 3 in the contract as a skills facility
offering is currently missing from our city parks, while the other proposed facilities already exist at
several other city parks.
At a minimum, I ask that they city make a commitment to ensuring that any supplemental funds in the
city budget next year be allocated to ensuring the bridge is installed to provide access across the
creek as part of this project to ensure that the bike park can be constructed if funding becomes
available in the future, or through a community effort.
Additionally, I urge the SLO City council to prioritize providing parking for bikes / e-bikes (preferably
secured - a possible option would be to fence off a section in a parking structure). People traveling to
downtown by bike do not have a secure place to leave bikes which are increasingly prone to theft. If
more bikes were used to travel in town, this would alleviate parking issues - while also increasing foot
traffic downtown and elsewhere where parking is provided.
Thank you,
Antonio Rico
