Mayor and Councilmembers,
My name is Nancy Welsh, and I currently serve as one of your Housing Commissioners. I respectfully
submit this written statement for the public record regarding the agenda item concerning my potential
removal from the Commission.
When I was appointed to the Housing Commission, I was interviewed by the Mayor and the Assistant
Director, Vicky. My appointment was then formally approved by the City Council. I have served under
that appointment with transparency, integrity, and a commitment to the residents of this community.
Given the thoroughness of that original processr I believe any consideration of removal should follow
an equally fair and transparent process, including the opportunity to review and respond to any
concerns.
While I did receive notification of the allegations being made against me, I have never been provided
due process. I have not been shown the sources of the concerns or complaints, nor given any
opportunity to respond, clarify, or correct the record. The information being presented about me is
inaccurate, and I have not participated in the actions I am being accused of.
Because of the seriousness of these inaccuracies, this matter has been submitted to HUD and to
Senator Alex Padilla's office. Senator Padilla's office has already responded, accepted my case, and
received my privacy release form.
Additionally, HUD's Sacramento office contacted me on Friday regarding the long-standing lighting
issues at Del Rio Terrace - issues residents have reported for over a year without resolution. HUD
informed me that they will be contacting the complex, and therefore HASLO, to ensure the necessary
corrections are made. This confirms that resident concerns are legitimate and that federal oversight is
already engaged.
Given that both HUD and Senator Padilla's office are now actively reviewing these matters, I
respectfully request that the Council postpone any decision or vote until their findings are available.
Acting at this time would mean making a decision based on incomplete and unverified information.
I welcome a fair and accurate process, and I ask that any action taken be grounded in a complete and
truthful record.
Respectf u I ly su bmitted,
Nancy Welsh
