HomeMy WebLinkAboutchat18:07:02 From SLO City Parks & Rec to Brandie Andrews(Direct Message) : Did you initially log on as Sebastian? Or is that a different Sebastian in the meeting? 18:07:48 From Brandie Andrews to SLO City Parks & Rec(Direct Message) : no that's not me 18:11:23 From Vlahdemir Cruz : Recordatorio, Si necesita ayuda en español por favor háganoslo saber. 18:11:26 From Vlahdemir Cruz : Reminder, If you need help in Spanish please let us know. 18:12:57 From Ali Jansen : yes please on the bike pump track 18:14:01 From Krista Feyma : with young kids I like the bottom 2 that they can't tell out an edge 18:14:08 From garyzanini : Yes like this feature, especially the one on the top right 18:14:15 From Ann : Permanent style is better I think. 18:14:19 From Michelle! : Would this have an open and close time? Concerned about noise 18:14:23 From Daniel Gilman : as a parent in the neighborhood we are very excited about this feature! the dirt concept looks most natural, safe and easiest to maintain. 18:15:59 From Michelle! : Thank you 18:16:11 From Meredith Sattler : Seems like it works best when integrated with other features, such as in the bottom right image. As a ‘stand alone’ feature, it seems to take up a lot of space that could have multi-uses. I could see it weaving in and our around the perimeter, or a part of the perimeter of the park. 18:16:23 From Brandie Andrews : I like the bottom left. This would be great for kids. Is it possible to place it around the perimeter? 18:17:03 From Sebastian : I like the examples that are integrated into the topography 18:17:03 From garyzanini : from: Gary Zanini 18:17:23 From garyzanini : From Gary Zanini 18:17:31 From Daniel Gilman : the updside of dirt track over asphalt track is dirt keeps it to bikes as opposed to skateboads 18:18:38 From Krista Feyma : my kids love their scooters so we would love the paved track not dirt 18:18:44 From Brandie Andrews : Bottom right is beautiful 18:18:56 From Meredith Sattler : Shade is always good, particularly in the summer! 18:19:48 From Michelle! : Love the shade! 18:19:48 From Krista Feyma : love shade 18:19:48 From Brandie Andrews : Any shade would work 18:19:48 From Daniel Gilman : yes absolutely! shade is great for playgrounds and other areas like picnic tables. the top right concept is beautiful. 18:19:48 From Ali Jansen : agreed, any shade would work. 18:19:50 From Meredith Sattler : Sails that do not obstruct vision at gourd level is best 18:19:51 From Michelle! : NO 18:20:00 From Meredith Sattler : No restrooms! 18:20:32 From Krista Feyma : I like having a restroom there 18:20:42 From Michelle! : No restrooms because then it changes the feel of the park and people stay longer and also makes it dirtier 18:20:44 From Ann : Small restroom is good 18:20:53 From garyzanini : From Gary Zanini no restrooms 18:21:00 From Daniel Gilman : unfortunately restrooms tend to change the environment at the park (Mitchell as reference) if they are included, the layout proposed has them separated from the playground is very important. 18:21:09 From Ali Jansen : I’d be concerned with the interaction with transients at the restrooms similar to concerns I have using them at Mitchell 18:21:12 From Brandie Andrews : As a parent who went to Emerson quite a bit when my kids were young, a bathroom would be great. I do understand it comes with it's own issues. 18:21:13 From Michelle! : Agree with daniel 18:21:13 From Krista Feyma : one family restroom would be nice 18:21:31 From Brandie Andrews : Family restroom would be great 18:21:54 From Sebastian : it should be very well lit. I like the idea of using art to help beautify the restroom 18:22:20 From Ali Jansen : it seems like the current excercise equipment is well used and could use an update 18:22:27 From Cindy to SLO City Parks & Rec(Direct Message) : yes, to restrooms. small and lockable. 18:22:54 From Michelle! : Love the exercise equipment and I like how it is gated in 18:23:01 From garyzanini : From Gary Zanini I like the idea of refurbishing the workout area since most of it is broken 18:23:18 From Meredith Sattler : Exercise equipment is good…and having it is a designated area is good, as it could be distracting to other users and vice versa. 18:23:19 From Brandie Andrews : top left 18:23:20 From Krista Feyma : I like having the equipment, no preference on style 18:23:35 From Ali Jansen : I agree with Krista 18:23:42 From Sebastian : would love to see an upgrade and expansion of the outdoor gym 18:23:53 From Cindy : yes to exercise equipment. the fitness court style. 18:23:58 From SLO City Parks & Rec to Cindy(Direct Message) : Hi Cindy, thank you for your comment. I'm not sure if direct messages are recorded (maybe they are?). If you would like to make sure you comment is recorded, please send the message to 'everyone'. Thank you! 18:24:03 From Brandie Andrews : larger gym space (like the top left) if some space can be for teens 18:24:11 From Michelle! : Yes to multi use and more then 1 court too 18:24:13 From Daniel Gilman : lowered/kid's sized or adjustable hoops for younger kids 18:24:29 From Krista Feyma : can there be a half court for kids with lower hoop 18:24:32 From Cindy : yes to multi court style. 18:24:42 From Meredith Sattler : Multi-court use is great. 1 court seems like the correct amount, given the current use. Also have some concern about too much impermeable pavement in the park. 18:24:49 From Brandie Andrews : Multi use court 18:25:03 From Cindy : a belated yes to a couple small restrooms. 18:26:27 From SLO City Parks & Rec to Ali Jansen(Direct Message) : Sorry to worry you, but thank you for being a wonderful example for the others! 18:26:28 From Michelle! : YES to black top resurfacing!!! 18:26:32 From Michelle! : And more black top too 18:26:58 From Krista Feyma : I like the idea of games and paint on it 18:27:09 From Brandie Andrews : No more blacktop, but make current space more usable 18:27:12 From Daniel Gilman : there is so much unusable black top currently at emerson. creating larger playground, bike track, exercise and less black top seems like a better use of space. 18:27:20 From Sebastian : permeable surfacing would be great 18:27:20 From Meredith Sattler : Tend to think less impermeable paving is better. School aged kids often spend a lot of time on pavement…it’s really nice for them and others to have more natural surfaces. 18:27:33 From Krista Feyma : a gaga ball pit on the blacktop would be awesome 18:27:48 From Ali Jansen to SLO City Parks & Rec(Direct Message) : ha! I thought I was being called out for using my hands. Sorry, I’m Italian and I have to use my hands! 😊 18:27:56 From Ann : More gardens 18:27:57 From Cindy : don’t expand the blacktop, but repurpose it. 18:28:27 From Sebastian : pollinator garden with water wise landscaping 18:28:40 From Michelle! : A garden with benches for reading/sitting/social distancing 18:28:47 From Ali Jansen : I agree with Daniel about black tops 18:28:53 From Meredith Sattler : Gardens and pathways are great! People seem to use the community garden regularly…but not all plots. Zeroscaping and natives are great. 18:28:54 From Daniel Gilman : the butterfly garden is a wonderful idea! 18:29:01 From Ann : Natives and pathways. The City already has a Japanese Garden. 18:29:12 From Meredith Sattler : With signage, so that it can be educational too 18:29:17 From Brandie Andrews : garden would be great with pathway and benches 18:29:28 From Sebastian : educational signs for native species would be nice to see 18:29:45 From Ali Jansen : butterfly garden would be great! 18:30:23 From Krista Feyma : my kids think the grass chair things are cool 18:30:37 From Michelle! : I like the wide open grassy space 18:30:38 From Daniel Gilman : the bottom left - is the concept for the bike track to be the perimeter of the grass? I also love the chairs in the top right. 18:31:06 From Meredith Sattler : Lawn is a great flex-use feature. Many people in SLO don’t have large yards, so a larger open space is a huge attribute! Maybe terraforming or other features around the periphery... 18:31:33 From Brandie Andrews : Top left is beautiful, but bottom left would be more usable. Yes, keep the grass. Fake grass? 18:31:38 From Ali Jansen : I like having a large open space of grass 18:31:40 From Krista Feyma : we see lots of rugby, frisbee, soccer, so please keep lots of open flat space 18:31:59 From Ali Jansen : I agree, Krista 18:32:03 From Cindy : keep enough flat grass area for outdoor exercise classes and kicking a ball around. but I like the addition of the grassy lounge chairs 18:32:46 From Sebastian : down lighting is best to reduce light pollution for nocturnal species. nothing too harsh 18:33:01 From Daniel Gilman : the down lighting in the top right is visually appealing and reduces the light pollution for the surrounding homes. 18:33:01 From Ann : lighting for safety 18:33:05 From Brandie Andrews : I agree with down lighting 18:33:08 From Meredith Sattler : Definitely lighting that keeps ‘night sky’ ordinance, but some lighting all night would be good. There are security issues in Emerson... 18:33:15 From Krista Feyma : yes lights, it's so dark even just walking by o. the way to downtown 18:33:16 From Brandie Andrews : Solar 18:33:39 From Meredith Sattler : Lighting example on top right image is really compelling, and low light, which is really nice 18:33:41 From Krista Feyma : I like the turn off at 8 and option to have on later 18:34:02 From Cindy : I like the ability to have timed lighting that individuals can turn on for night activities within allowed hours. 18:34:18 From Daniel Gilman : the push button is a nice idea for pedestrians walking through at night 18:34:52 From Meredith Sattler : I agree about the ‘push-button’ option being a great way to accommodate multi-use 18:34:57 From Krista Feyma : water bottle filler style! 18:35:04 From Ann : Yes, more water with bottle fill and dog water 18:35:10 From Daniel Gilman : bottle fill! 18:35:10 From Krista Feyma : I like the dog one too 18:35:12 From Cindy : add bottle filler station 18:35:16 From Ali Jansen : bottle fill please 18:35:28 From Brandie Andrews : bottle fill and pet station 18:35:33 From Meredith Sattler : Multi-species option is really nice, given the number of people walking pets in the area 18:36:16 From garyzanini : From Gary Zanini I think the basketball court is a good feature. I would like to see 4 pickleball courts incorporated. We don't have any pickleball courts in the downtown area. It is the fastest growing sport in the US and we have three nice courts at French Park with shared courts with tennis players that causes many courts not being used so I would like to see dedicated courts in the park for just pickleball. I think four courts would be great. Due to lack of pickleball courts in SLO many players are going to Shell Beach and Morro Bay. Also would like the bocce ball courts stay and upgraded with oyster shells and well-maintained. Both pickle ball and bocce ball are great sports for people of all ages and are becoming more and more popular. If you check out French Park Pickle ball on the weekends you'll see many families playing and the courts full throughout the week except on tennis days when maybe one group shows up all week, hope that situation can change too. Thank you for your consideration. 18:36:40 From Meredith Sattler : Public art? 18:37:07 From Ali Jansen : I’d like to see a splash pad 18:37:31 From Ann : Futsal? 18:37:35 From Cindy : design area that can accommodate food trucks and also stadium style seating built in a section of the landscape for watching activities. 18:37:36 From Krista Feyma : a splash pad would be awesome!!!! 18:37:50 From Brandie Andrews : Splash pad for sure. Easy, safe way for little ones to get cooled off! 18:37:52 From Cindy : Gaga ball court 18:38:26 From Daniel Gilman : educational garden near the playground! 18:39:50 From Krista Feyma : if we added splash pad to the poll it would be my #1 18:40:06 From Ali Jansen : can we add splash pad to the poll? 18:40:17 From Brandie Andrews : I agree with the splash pad. It would be #1 or #2 18:40:36 From Daniel Gilman to SLO City Parks & Rec(Direct Message) : I meant to prioritize pump track* not pump station 18:41:39 From Krista Feyma : powerthru 18:41:42 From Ali Jansen : let’s power through 18:43:49 From Krista Feyma : please keep the bocce we enjoy playing! 18:44:16 From SLO City Parks & Rec to Daniel Gilman(Direct Message) : Got it, thank you Daniel! 18:47:26 From Brandie Andrews to SLO City Parks & Rec(Direct Message) : where's the star? 18:47:44 From Ali Jansen : shade structure near playground please 18:48:02 From Krista Feyma : I like shade near the playground 18:48:10 From Meredith Sattler : Shade structure over pavement, as that area gets the hottest. Can be used to delineate space within the field of the asphalt. 18:49:04 From Krista Feyma : can I add a sticker while using zoom on my phone? I'm not seeing it 18:49:13 From Daniel Gilman : the playground is unusable during warmer months without shade. the structure over the playground would make it accessible all year! 18:49:23 From Brandie Andrews : shade over pavement would be nice 18:50:05 From Krista Feyma : water near workout and bball. 18:50:08 From Meredith Sattler : No restrooms. Hydration stations near exercise equipment and play ground…one on NW side, and one on SE side 18:50:14 From Daniel Gilman : if a bathroom is placed at all, keep it far away from the playground where families play please. 18:50:15 From Cindy : hydration station by exercise court 18:50:35 From Krista Feyma : I usually say bathroom near playground, but if it will become a haven for homeless further from kids is better 18:50:49 From Ali Jansen : please keep bathrooms and hydration station away from the shaded tree area where transients are 18:51:05 From Cindy : pump track near playground 18:51:28 From Meredith Sattler : Pump track weaving in and out of other features, not taking up a big portion of lawn 18:51:47 From Daniel Gilman : bike track where unusable blacktop is, or surrounding entire perimeter of grass. 18:52:00 From Krista Feyma : if there were.benches near the bike track for parents to sit while the kids ride that would be great. 18:52:14 From Brandie Andrews : pump track around grass 18:52:26 From Ali Jansen : ditto on Daniel and Krista’s pump track comments 18:53:15 From Ann : Exercise near the playground 18:53:36 From Cindy : exercise adjacent to multi court 18:53:57 From Krista Feyma : I would use the exercise equipment more if I could use while my kids play, so if they were closer.together 18:54:02 From Ali Jansen : splash pad anywhere in the sun 18:54:30 From Daniel Gilman : I also love the splash pad idea near the playground! 18:54:32 From Krista Feyma : anywhere it would be so awesome to have 18:54:51 From Brandie Andrews : please have benches wherever they go 18:55:26 From Daniel Gilman : in general keeping children's areas all together would be helpful for families 18:55:43 From Krista Feyma : I agree with Daniel 18:56:24 From Krista Feyma : with plenty of seating in the middle for parents to supervise kids who are potentially enjoying different activities 18:57:27 From Ali Jansen : I don’t feel safe having my children play near transients 18:58:16 From Daniel Gilman : currently the only benches (2) in the entire park are only in the playground area which end up being used by transients. providing other areas and keeping the playground for families only would help us feel safer. The City of San Francisco has playgrounds gated and ordinances where all adults in a playground vicinity must be accompanied by a minor (a great idea for downtown playgrounds). 18:58:23 From Meredith Sattler : I have a comment about safety 18:59:08 From Meredith Sattler : A comment about safety I’d like to verbally share, perhaps discuss… 18:59:10 From Daniel Gilman : an educational garden near the playground to replace the overgrown shrubs would help my family feel safer. 19:00:58 From Krista Feyma : i love the gaudi tile benches and walls at the parks in Barcelona adding color and art. i would love to see that style 19:04:09 From Krista Feyma : I love having this kind of meeting on zoom- with my kids running around while I participate, not sure I would make an in person meeting 19:04:23 From Meredith Sattler : Thanks you! 19:04:47 From Meredith Sattler : Beautification would be fantastic…again keeps it more like a neighborhood park 19:05:13 From Brandie Andrews : Color and art 19:05:21 From Meredith Sattler : Integration of garden, play features, and art. ‘Functional art’ is fantastic! 19:05:31 From Cindy : functional colorful art 19:05:32 From Ann : Tiles made by the neighbors help create an ownership of the park 19:05:54 From Krista Feyma : since it is a neighborhood park I like the idea of having kids and neighbors contribute to the art somehow 19:05:58 From Cindy : I like Ann’s idea 19:06:21 From Brandie Andrews : Can we incorporate repurposed materials? 19:06:47 From Ali Jansen : I love the community participation aspect for an art installation 19:06:49 From Meredith Sattler : Interested in the possibility of removing the chain-link fence…perhaps there could be more beaming, or a more artistic type of barrier 19:07:20 From Brandie Andrews : hydroponic system would be educational and beautiful 19:07:42 From Michelle! : I echo Meredith’s thought about chain-link fence 19:09:44 From Ali Jansen : there is an installation at a downtown Santa Barbara park that includes colorful hand prints of community members 19:11:18 From Meredith Sattler : ‘Clapping’ 19:11:48 From Ali Jansen : how can the community help show support with the grant process? 19:13:45 From Daniel Gilman : how will we hear if the grant is awarded? 19:15:01 From Cindy : great workshop! thank you for offering multiple dates/times. 19:15:21 From Ali Jansen : ditto Cindy! 19:15:22 From Daniel Gilman : thank you for prioritizing emerson for this grant application!! 19:15:27 From Krista Feyma : yay! 19:15:28 From Ali Jansen : woo hoo! 19:15:41 From Meredith Sattler : Thanks Dave and everyone!!! 19:16:01 From Devin Hyfield : https://www.slocity.org/government/department-directory/master-plan-and-element-update 19:16:37 From Ann : This is a great meeting - well done! 19:16:46 From SLO City Parks & Rec : sbillete@slocity.org 19:16:57 From Krista Feyma : thank you! 19:17:03 From Michelle! : Thank you!!! 19:17:05 From Brandie Andrews : Thank you! 19:17:11 From Ali Jansen : thank you! 19:17:20 From SLO City Parks & Rec : Thanks, everyone! 19:17:29 From Sebastian : sebastian@firmaconsultants.com
