Dear Mayor Stewart and Council Members,
I have been a San Luis Obispo resident for the last forty years, and over those years, I have seen the roles, the
responsibilities, the time committed and work load of the Mayor and Council members, change and increase.
I feel that the role of Council is no longer a part time position, it requires a large amount of both in person and
out of session time and study.
I supported the last monetary increase the City proposed for the Mayor and the Council, and I also support this
increase. A seat on Council, should not cost you out of pocket expenses. Your time commitment is significant,
your travel costs should not be.
Thank you for your service and commitment to our community.
As for the study of the "opt in" $25.00 per meeting for Advisory Board meetings. I believe the $25.00 would
help to offset parking and expenses that Advisory Board members do incur to perform their role. But, I am
strongly in favor that it is an "opt in" option. Allowing Advisory Board members to decline the stipend if they
wish.
