Deny the request to remove the oak tree at 614 Monterey St.
Every other tree on that lot was removed and this one beautiful oak tree was to be protected per the plans. It is
laughable to read that it was ‘unknown’ that the root system of a tree this size and age would ‘reach beyond the
drip line.’ I am sorry to be snarky but the designers knew that tree was supposed to be retained and either
someone fell down on the job when it came to tree protection or the tree just doesn’t fit into the architects ‘vision’
for the site. Calling out a Coral tree as a replacement for a California Live Oak makes me think it is the latter. The
tree is still in fair condition and may still survive and thrive- everything should be done to retain it per the original
plans.
