Terri Benson, PGA PGA Golf Professional | First Tee Coach Date: 1/29/2026 Members of the San Luis Obispo City Council Dear Members of the San Luis Obispo City Council, My name is Terri Benson, and I am a PGA golf professional who has taught at Laguna Lake golf course for the past 23 years. This place has been more than my workplace—it has been a second home and a lifeline for many children and families in our community. Through the First Tee program that I run here, I have watched kids grow in confidence, learn responsibility, and feel proud of themselves—sometimes for the very first time. For many of them, this course is a safe place, a steady routine, and a source of positive mentorship they may not have elsewhere. I understand the need for affordable housing, and I respect the city’s commitment to that goal. I simply ask that you also consider what would be lost if this course is taken away. Once a space like this is gone, the opportunities it gives our children—to belong, to grow, to be supported—are gone with it. Please consider alternatives that allow us to meet housing needs without sacrificing a place that has quietly shaped lives for decades. I hope you will protect this space for the kids and families who depend on it now and in the future. Thank you for listening and for caring about our community. Warmly,
