Over that time, I’ve seen a wide range of people use and enjoy this course—college and high school students, families, children, and seniors. It would be a real loss to the community to repurpose it. I urge you to release the funds already budgeted for needed repairs so the course can operate and function as it should. Completing the Pro Shop remediation, making the necessary repairs, and replacing the bridge will significantly improve the user experience and help increase participation and revenue. But not everything of value can be measured in dollars, and LLGC is one of those things. It is more than just a golf course to many residents. While reaching out to golfers about this Study Session, I heard many compelling stories. One young man told me he moved here not knowing anyone and was working remotely, feeling isolated and slipping toward depression. He began playing at LLGC because it was affordable and beginner- friendly. Through golf, fresh air, and being paired with others, he built friendships, improved his health, and changed the direction of his life. I spoke with a mother golfing with her teenage son, an avid player. She is not an advanced golfer, but LLGC allows them to spend meaningful time together on the course. That kind of shared experience is priceless. A First Tee family I met was shocked to hear the course might be repurposed. Their young daughter immediately asked what she could do to help save it. I also met a newly married couple on their regular “golf date,” who said it is healthier, more affordable, and more meaningful than many other entertainment options. These are just a few examples of LLGC’s real community value. Improving physical and social environments are building blocks of a healthy city. By repairing, maintaining, and enhancing this course, you invest not just in recreation, but in community well-being and connection. Thank you for your attention. Carolyn Smith SLO City Resident 1
