OVERVIEW STUDY SESSION
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I am writing to express my strong support for the continued operation and preservation of the City of San Luis Obispo
Golf Course. This facility is far more than a place to play golf—it is a vital community asset that provides recreational,
environmental, and social benefits to residents of all ages.
Recreational Benefits
The golf course offers a unique blend of physical activity, mental wellness, and social connection. Golf is a low-impact
sport that promotes cardiovascular health, balance, and flexibility, making it accessible to youth, adults, and seniors
alike. Beyond the game itself, the course fosters friendships, mentorships, and intergenerational connections that
strengthen our community fabric.
On a personal note, some of my fondest memories are from the time my parents and I had a family pass to the course.
We spent many afternoons walking the fairways together, sharing laughter, learning from one another, and enjoying the
beauty of the outdoors. Those moments were more than just rounds of golf—they were opportunities to bond and to
create memories that will last a lifetime.

The golf course serves as a valuable green space within our city, offering scenic beauty, wildlife habitat, and a natural
buffer against urban development. It contributes to cleaner air, cooler temperatures, and a sense of tranquility that
benefits not only golfers but also walkers, birdwatchers, and those who simply enjoy the open landscape.
Benefits to All Users
From youth programs that introduce children to the sport, to leagues and tournaments for adults, to accessible
opportunities for seniors to remain active and engaged, the golf course truly serves the entire community. It is a place
where people of diverse backgrounds and abilities can come together in a safe, welcoming environment.
Preserving the City of San Luis Obispo Golf Course means preserving a space that promotes health, environmental
stewardship, and community connection. I urge you to continue supporting this treasured resource for current and future
generations.
