Subject:Laguna Lake Golf Course Study Session - February 3, 2026 - Agenda Item #7
Dear Mayor Erica A. Stewart, Vice Mayor Michelle Shoresman, and Council Members Boswell, Francis,
and Marx:
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the City of San Luis Obispo’s continued support of
Laguna Lake Golf Course as an affordable public golf facility. It is truly a community gem, and I am
grateful that our city chooses to maintain such an accessible venue for residents.
One of the unique strengths of golf is that it can be learned and enjoyed at virtually any age, and
continued throughout one’s lifetime. Unlike many sports that are limited to younger participants, Laguna
Lake Golf Course provides a welcoming place where children, adults, and seniors can all play, practice,
and share the game together. This makes it not only a recreational asset, but also a rare opportunity for
lifelong physical activity, social connection, and intergenerational community building.
I also want to commend the Laguna Lake Golf Course staff, who are consistently friendly, helpful, and
professional. Their attitude and service are a credit to the City’s Recreation Department and reflect very
well on San Luis Obispo. They help create a positive environment that encourages new players to stick
with the game and regular players to keep returning.
As you hold your upcoming study session on February 3, I respectfully encourage you to consider the
broader benefits Laguna Lake Golf Course provides to the city, not only its operating costs. The course
supports public health, community cohesion, outdoor recreation, youth development, and tourism, all
while offering an affordable option in a region where such opportunities can be limited. I hope you will
weigh these long-term community benefits heavily in your deliberations.
