Subject:Oak Tree Removal
Dear Mayor and Council,
I was disheartened to see the sign posted on Monterey St. alerting us to the application to remove an
oak tree next to the new parking structure. After doing a little digging, I found that the tree had been
considered and included in the design of the new theatre. Now they are saying they didn't realize the
extent of the root system. Who doesn't know that trees have deep and widespread roots? You would
think the persons involved and making these decisions should have to know these facts. Maybe
plumbers should have been the ones to have been involved in the original design. They know more about
this subject than it seems the persons involved do. If you would look at the oaks of Hearst Castle, having
been moved from their original locations, they survived for at least 80 years, with a lot of construction all
around them. Too many oaks in our country have been removed, legally and illegally; a blight on our
stewardship of the land. Please deny this request and save this one tree. The planet will thank you.
