I listened to the Mayor’s comments about the Council’s dedication and strong support of public art, and while you know me as a longtime unwavering advocate for housing, it’s my firm belief that the city also owes dedication and strong support for public recreational opportunities. Physical activity and recreation are as important for quality of life as any of our other wonderful city services and amenities— and diversity in recreational opportunities is as important as diversity in any other area. Don’t close the golf course! I know from personal experience that the Municipal Golf Course provides countless hours of pleasure and exercise for kids, youth, seniors and everyone who can’t afford the expensive private courses or can’t drive that far. My two sons and their father spent many hours on the course—and my kids, now 38 and 42, still play together there on occasion, with me walking along for fun. It would be a terrible shame for the Council to allow outdated and narrow-minded opinions about both golf and housing to sway you into abandoning this beloved recreational amenity. (I mean, why not build housing where the baseball stadium is or perhaps in one of our parks or hey, on open space? No, you’d never do that—don’t consider doing it here either.) Thanks for all you do, Carlyn -- Carlyn Christianson 1415 Morro St., #16 San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 805-550-9320 carlynpc@gmail.com 1
