Subject:Laguna Lake Golf Course Study Session - February 3, 2026 - Agenda Item #7
Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council,
We are writing as residents whose home overlooks Laguna Lake Municipal Golf Course. The view of the
course was one of the primary reasons we chose to buy our home, and over time it has become part of
our daily lives.
We have watched annual family events unfold throughout the year and valued the steady presence of the
course outside our windows. We’ve watched children play on the wet grass after rain and seen how
reliably the course is used by people of all ages.
Golf is deeply personal to our family. My grandfather’s sister, Betty Henderson (later Betty Singleton),
was a distinguished Scottish international golfer, and an annual memorial competition is still played in
her name at her home club in Prestwick.
I grew up learning to play from a young age, beginning with handmade wooden clubs my grandfather
made for me.
My father, now in his eighties and living in South Africa, is encouraged to visit us largely because of the
enjoyment he gets watching the golfers and walking and playing the course. I have two sets of golf clubs
ready for the years ahead and have been looking forward to continuing the lessons that began in early
childhood.
This letter is a sincere plea not to take this course away from our family or from the many residents who
use and value it every day. We believe the course can improve and that a clubhouse in the area would be
welcomed and well used, but we strongly support preserving Laguna Lake as accessible, city-owned
public space.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Kim and Matthew Sakata
