While I recognize and respect the importance of addressing housing needs, eliminating our only golf facility within city limits would be a tremendous injustice to the residents of this community. We already have very limited recreational options available, and the golf course serves as one of the few accessible outdoor spaces that promotes physical activity, mental well-being, and social connection for residents of all ages. Paving over the golf course would permanently remove green space that cannot be easily replaced. Once lost, this land will no longer serve as a place for recreation, community events, youth programs, and affordable access to outdoor activity. Cities across the country are learning—often too late—that preserving open space is just as critical to quality of life as housing development. Affordable housing is an important goal, but it should not come at the expense of Laguna Lake Golf Course. There must be alternative locations or creative solutions that allow the city to meet housing demands without sacrificing the well-being and livability of our community. I urge the City Council to reconsider this proposal, engage with residents, and explore options that protect our shared green spaces while still addressing housing needs responsibly. Closing the golf course would be a short-term solution with long-term negative consequences for our city. Thank you for your time, consideration, and service to our community. Sincerely, Kurt McClave Life long resident of the City 1
