This email is in refrence to ; council meeting on tuesday feb 3 at 530 item 5.g tree removal at 614 monterey st Thanks for making time to read my email. I am in protest for the removal of this very old oak tree at 614 monterey st SLO. I was born in SLO in 1959 and have lived in slo for most of my life, current home Port Morro Bay. I owned and operated a thriving Native Landscape Business based in SLO for over 3 decades. Native Oaks are a very integral member of SLO county's eco system as well as deep rooted history. I cant think of a more appropriate display for the Arts and Cultural district than a mighty Oak Tree! It is also of vast importance that the area/canopy be protected from hardscape construction and irrigation. Preserving This Grand Oak reflects the values SLO claims to stand for. This Tree contributes to what makes downtown SLO unique. I have witnessed the removal of way to many Oaks and entire Oak eco systems in SLO county. I gathered a few hundred signatures in a effort to bring Justin Winery and the Wonderful company to justice for the eco system of ancient oaks that were removed for development,( thousands of trees ) and supported the emergency oak protection plan and the more through plan that followed. What use is a Oak Protection ordinance if it does not protect the Oaks. Obliviously I stand for the Trees. I do hope enough voices are heard to protect this mighty Oak and the oaks of future projects. Thanks for your time. Tree Hugger Extraordinaire Craig Schermerhorn Craig Stone 1
