I have lived in San Luis Obispo County for 38 years, and oak trees have always been an integral part of our local ecosystem, landscape, and identity. They are not just trees. They are living history, providing habitat, shade, soil stability, and a sense of place that defines this region. Once a legacy oak is removed, it is gone for good. Even with replanting efforts, it takes generations to replace what is lost. These trees cannot simply be recreated within our lifetimes, and their value extends far beyond what can be measured in short-term convenience or development needs. I strongly believe we have a responsibility to preserve these trees whenever possible, not only for ourselves but for future generations who deserve to experience the same natural beauty and environmental benefits that many of us grew up with here in SLO County. I respectfully ask the City Council to consider alternatives to removal and to weigh the long-term environmental and cultural impact before approving this application. Thank you for your time, care, and consideration. With hospitality, Sam Miller 1
