I am a participant in the ultimate frisbee club that plays at Emerson Park on weekdays at noon. The current field at Emerson Park is a prime place for our members to play because of the large open field, and it is a great place to meet up because of its central location. Unfortunately, the designs being proposed would ultimately make it unplayable in the future for our group. The new dog park with fencing would take half of the playing field, making it unplayable. I ask that the commission please reconsider an alternative to the proposed designs. The current field is a great example of a multi-purpose field that brings together the community in a core area of the city. Whether it’s people simply lying on the grass enjoying the sun, people playing soccer, or this group catching a small break in the day, the field brings a holistic approach that the commission should be striving for. Additionally, this location has been instrumental for our group as it has allowed us to involve new members from the community who are walking around on the adjacent side streets. I understand that the City of San Luis Obispo needs more dog parks, as the only active one is at Laguna Park. I ask that the commission reconsider an alternative that still preserves the field and utilizes the new asphalt paving (site legend #9) in a more efficient way. I am certain that both can still be incorporated with such a large open asphalt area being shown in the proposed design. I believe that certain elements, such as the basketball courts, can be shifted around to include the dog park in that area. Sincerely, Jacob Hernandez 1
