Subject:Budget surplus!
Dear Madame Mayor and Council members,
I bid you good tidings.
I understand there are unassigned funds this year and that you are looking for possible ways of extra help for
the city, on a one time basis.
As those who know me, I live at ground zero , Hell’s kitchen in the Alta Vista neighborhood (it’s still a
neighborhood now, but that might not be true in the future)! I’ve been in this house 25 years and 47 years in
SLO. We are barraged with party noise from East foothill Blvd, near Cal Poly, to Hathway Street between
Kentucky Street and Longview Ave. Most of it, not all, is coming from illegal fraternities and some of it from
student partying. For months, really years, we have had loud, live music parties on Saturday afternoon. I don’t
even want to garden in my backyard when this happens. At night the crowds are so large and then the music
and the loud screaming starts. Difficult to fall asleep, talk or be with my family. We have a legal, registered
airbnb unit in the back yard, (and I pay TOT taxes). Come spend a free weekend night with us and get a first
hand taste of this insanity . How about hiring an extra person or two to investigate the illegal fraternities and
follow up on noise complaints . These new jobs could also include ‘education’ to those that are fined, like in the
old days, a personal visit to these houses. I imagine that many of you that live in nicer, quieter neighborhoods
feel sorry and sympathetic to us, but why not really do something , as a city council member. We are real
people, with real feelings and emotions. We are frayed, tired, angry that in our retirement years that we have to
put up with this ‘crap’, pardon my French! Move to a different neighborhood you might say, but that is far easier
said than done. You are got elected to city council, this is one of the more ‘unpleasant’ parts of the job, but still,
‘It’s part of the job'! Help me Obi wan Kenobi!
