My family is one of many with young children who commute daily from the Serra Meadows/Toscano neighborhood to downtown. Each morning, I drop my children off at Hawthorne Elementary on my way to work, and in the evenings I pick them up from after-school care. We typically ride a cargo bike and hope that one day our children will feel safe enough to ride their own bikes along this route. Currently, however, riding on South Higuera often feels unsafe — particularly during the winter months when daylight fades before we return home. During those times, we frequently resort to driving, which feels unnecessary given the short distance and flat terrain. A protected bicycle lane will make a meaningful difference in how safe families like ours feel using this corridor. As you know, our neighborhood lacks connectivity and amenities, including convenient access to parks. We must travel along South Higuera to reach nearly every part of town, and safer bicycle infrastructure will significantly improve access, safety, and quality of life for residents. I sincerely appreciate your efforts in advancing this project and the thoughtful community outreach conducted throughout the process. Sincerely, Cheryl Ku 3099 Arezzo Drive 1
