Subject:Changes to bike lanes on Higuera St
I read in KSBY news feed that a resident at Chumash village wants to see bikes on sidewalks like on
Madonna. As a regular cyclist in the city I say bad idea. Road cyclists dislike that configuration and find it
quite dangerous with crossing driveways and turning vehicles. Drivers do not expect cyclists on
sidewalks. Please do not force us into sidewalks. We are not pedestrians. Another comment is totally
separated bike lanes with barriers between bikes and cars are problematic in that they do not get
cleaned. Debris creates hazards for us. As a road cyclist of many years I do not need expensive bike
infrastructure. I need a reasonably wide, marked and clean bike lane. Since moving here from Seattle I
have often thought SLO city and county could improve cycling safety and at low cost by cleaning the
roads and shoulders more often and lowering speed limits by about 10 miles per hour on most roads I
ride (Broad, Orcutt, Buckley, Ontario, OConnor, Tank Farm , Huasna, Lopez are examples. Thanks for
considering my feedback. Teresa Lehr-Franks
