Subject:South Higuera Lane construction
South Higuera Street is a very busy, heavily traveled route that definitely should NOT be reduced from four
lanes to two. Look please at what was done on the section of Madonna Road between the Madonna Inn and
Dalidio Drive; instead of squeezing the lanes of traffic for a segregated bicycle lane, the bicycle lanes were
added to the sidewalk, with very clear markings for both bicycles and pedestrians. Why not expand the
sidewalks on both sides of South Higuera Street and incorporate the bicycle lanes with the existing sidewalk,
just like was done on the section of Madonna Road ? If the need for flashing crosswalks is what will help
pedestrians cross South Higuera, then install a couple of them where needed. Reducing South Higuera to one
lane in each direction will cause the street to become jammed up during rush hour commute times. Please
reconsider your plan, thank you. Bob Lyon, San Luis Obispo.
