Subject:Rental Registry
City Council Members-
We are landlords who currently pay the SLO business license, use a professional property manager and
employ skilled local tradesman for maintenance and repairs.
We have always required tenants to abide by all rules, regulations and ordinances and have excellent
relationships with the neighbors, who appreciate the quality tenants we have. We address all repairs
immediately and care very much about our tenants and our property.
The Rental Registry will not realize the stated goals of "safe and stable housing" for tenants. Concerns:
1. It will create another layer of bureaucracy with fees passed onto tenants, further raising rents
2. Appears to be a move toward rent control which has not proven to be a long term solution
3. If safe and stable housing is the goal, city funds are better spent opening channels for tenants to have
concerns addressed. We believe they are in place.
4. It penalizes good landlords with more costs
5. There are numerous tenant-friendly state laws which are not balanced by similar laws for landlords.
Please do not vote for this, there will be long term repercussions.
Likely few landlords know about this proposal. Contacting each landlord for their input would be the best
approach, as well as being fair and wise for the city council to do, since it affects each one directly.
Thank you.
