Subject:rental registry
Dear Mayor Stewart and Members of the City Council,
Regarding Tuesday’s discussion about the potential creation of a rental registry, I urge you to approach
this proposal with careful consideration.
City policies should prioritize encouraging investment, proper maintenance, and the efficient
development of additional housing, while relying on existing tools to address legitimate safety concerns.
Expanding government oversight through the creation of a new registry is not, in my view, the right
solution. Landlords are already subject to regulations and enforcement mechanisms that hold them
accountable.
Establishing another program within an already expanded city government would add unnecessary
bureaucracy and expense. As a taxpayer, I am increasingly concerned about funding additional positions
when existing programs and staff could be utilized more effectively. If current resources were
streamlined and enforced efficiently, the need for a new layer of administration would be far less
compelling.
