HomeMy WebLinkAbout2/24/2026 Item 4a, Allred Tanya Allred < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Opposition to Rental Registry Dear Mayor Stewart and Members of the City Council, I write to express opposition to the proposed rental registry. While ensuring safe and well-maintained housing is a shared goal, a rental registry would impose new fees, privacy concerns, and administrative burdens. These added costs will ultimately increase the cost to provide housing. Requiring the collection and storage of detailed property and tenant-related information creates unnecessary risk without clear evidence of meaningful public benefit. The City already has code enforcement tools and legal authority to address substandard housing. A registry duplicates existing mechanisms while expanding bureaucracy and diverting resources away from policies that would actually increase housing supply. We respectfully urge the Council to reject the creation of a rental registry and instead focus on solutions that promote housing production and affordability. Sincerely, Tanya Allred Small landlord in the City of SLO 1
