Subject:Mandatory Rental Housing Registry not a good idea
Dear Mayor and City Council,
Please do not venture into an illegal, unnecessary, and expensive additional layer of city government with a
rental housing registry.
The city already issues business licenses for landlords and a quick review of assessors records show
homeowner’s exemptions. It’s not difficult to gain a picture of our rental housing inventory.
Money used for this proposed registry could be used to fund additional housing.
State law already codifies rent raises and evictions.
The summary from recent city council meeting says outlays are outpacing incoming funds with possible staff
layoffs.
Not a responsible use of public funds in my opinion.
