Description
Under VC 22500, it is illegal to park with 20 feet of a crosswalk. The red curb starts about 4 feet from the crsswalk. The red curb is 14
feet according to my measurements, which means the red curb needs to be extended at least 2 feet. Under VC 22514, no vehicle
may park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. The red curb, which extends beyond the fir hydrant is 14 feet. Extending the red curb all
the way to the driveway would make sense, given that cars which presently park in that space often block traffic coming into the
neighborhood, especially when cars on the opposite side of the street are trying to exit into the roundabout. Please double check my
measurements and consider red painting the entire curb from the crosswalk to the driveway. Thank you

Problem Location:
1986 San Luis Ranch Rd, San Luis Obispo, 93405
Description
A white silverado pick up truck license 76864J3 has been parked at the corner of San
Luis Ranch road and Froom for weeks, without moving. Also the curb in that space
should be painted red, given the close proximity of the fire hydrant and the cross walk.
Your website will not let me upload photos. It is hard to avoid hitting the truck, exiting
the roundabout and entering the neighborhood.

Hi Luke,
Just reaching out to pass along a work order for your review to extend some red curb at the San Luis
Ranch/Froom Ranch roundabout per the community request Bryan sent me this morning. Let me know if there
are any changes you need me to make to this or if it’s ready for Cityworks!

Subject: FW: My Ask Slo request re Froom and SL Drive
Hello Luke and Donna,
FYI, this request came in from Council Member Marx over the weekend. She was having an issue with AskSLO, so
forwarded directly to me. Looks like she is concerned about the length of red curb at Froom and San Luis Ranch
Road. Not clear from the photos, but sounds like her concern is if there is 15’ restricted on either side of the hydrant as
well as appropriate restriction to a crosswalk per the Daylighting Law.
@Schwartz, Luke is someone on your team able to do a field visit to verify if adjustments to the length of red curb are
necessary? If so, can you follow up with Donna and I as to what your recommendation would be?
Thanks,

I did. I took a drive and it is OK for painting. I measured the current RC at a bit over 13', and the adjacent parking space is
18.5' right to the driveway. I can see an occasion in the future where we would issue a RC permit for the property at 1986
San Luis Ranch, when it likely should have been no parking all along due to the hydrant and sight distance leaving the
driveway.
