Subject:Supporting Item 8a on City of SLO Council Meeting - April 7th
Hi City Council Members,
Please accept this email as a strong expression of support for Item 8a: 2026 Climate Action Plan
Progress Report & 2027 Plan Update Study Session on April 7th. It is evident from the multi-page
update that the SLO City team has been hard at work implementing the last comprehensive CAP
update and as a result, SLO City continues to be a leadership city in climate action.
USGBC California’s deep bench of members are sustainability and green building professionals with a
strong commitment to addressing climate change and other local, state, and international
environmental issues. Our members are designers, engineers, public agency and utility staff,
consultants, product manufacturers, and service providers. Our mission is to transform California
through the built environment into a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable place for all. Our goals
include advancing environmental justice by developing diverse talent, and systemic change based on
impactful solutions to address our urgent environment and social challenges.
USGBC California commends the progress, milestones, and efforts of SLO City in stewarding the
principles of overarching sustainability that uplifts the quality of life for all of SLO, ensures a livable,
cleaner, and greener environment for all, is favorable economically, and does so centering the
community at the core. The multifaceted nature of the plan's scope and the multi-layered
approach to tackling challenging solutions has yielded significant impact over the years.
We ask that you please approve this plan alongside staff's request for the city to become a member
of the Local Government Climate Alliance. Especially in these times with political pressure from all
layers of government desiring to change course, it is more important than ever that leadership cities
like SLO stand for what is best for their constituents, our non-human relatives, our planet, and our
lives.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We strongly urge you to approve this item.
Sincerely,
USGBC California
