Dear City Council,
All are excited by the City’s ambitious goals of carbon neutrality by 2035: a zero-emissions electricity
system, reduced energy use, electrification, and diverting organic waste from landfills.
Understanding significant challenges remain regarding regional transportation emission being closely
tied to where residents live in relation to where they work, a coordinated approach can strengthen our
economy, improve livability, and position San Luis Obispo as a model for sustainable growth.
Climate and housing cannot be treated as separate efforts. The hope is to align the Climate Action Plan
with the Housing Element and Land Use and Circulation Element to cohesively plan to reduce commute
distances and vehicle miles traveled.
