SUBJECT: OPEN SPACE ELEMENT
If we are sincere in the implementation of our Open Space Element goals, I believe we
need to be proactive. Much of what our citizens consider and value is outside our control.
I would like to suggest the following for inclusion:

After first paragraph insert new paragraph to read:
"Many areas considered as important'open space' to the citizens of San Luis Obispo
are outside of the purview of the City Council. In order to protect and preserve
these resources; the City shall make its highest priority those programs which
strengthen and coordinate policies and programs with the County, State, non-profit
organizations and private property interests."
At our last meeting there was discussion about where to include a map of currently held
open space. I firmly believe this is very important. It would also be helpful to see the
cumulative effect of other "open space" held by other agencies or organizations within our

"Work with other affected agencies and organizations to illustrate and document all
'open space' holdings in the areas outlined in the Open Space Element."
