Fraser, Engineering Assistant : _ _42 SUBJECT: "Median Irrigation and Landscape Project - Grand Avenue, Specification Number 93 -14C" RECOMMENDATION: By motion, 1) approve plans and specifications for "Median Irrigation and Landscape Project - Grand Avenue, Specification 93 -14C" 2) authorize staff to solicit bids 3) authorize the CAO to award the contract if the successful bid is below the engineer's estimate DISCUSSION: On April 6, 1993 the Council approved the design for the Grand Avenue median improvements and authorized implementation in two phases during fiscal year 1993/94: Phase 1 included reconstructing the medians, reconstructing and resurfacing the pavement, and restriping to create bike lanes. Phase 1 was completed in summer 1993. Phase 2 included designing and installing the median area landscaping. Irrigation and landscape design is complete, and staff is ready to solicit bids for installation. CONCURRENCES: The Architectural Review Commission- reviewed and approved conceptual plans. The City Arborist and the Tree Committee approved the tree selection. Conceptual plans were reviewed by the Cal Poly Landscape Advisory Committee and the campus Landscape Architect. Community Development Department granted this project a categorical exemption. FISCAL IMPACT: The median irrigation and landscape project is part of the 1993/94 Street Reconstruction and Resurfacing project listed on pages E -6 and E -17 of the 1993/95 Financial Plan. The current balance of that project account is $183,000.
