Water Storage Tank Repair: Serrano, Ferrini, Slack, Specification No.
93 -57.
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
By motion,
1) Approve specifications for "Water Storage Tank Repair: Serrano,
Ferrini, Slack, Specification No. 93 -57"
2) Authorize staff to advertise for bids
3) Authorize the CAO to award the contract if the lowest responsible bid
is within the budget.
DISCUSSION:
In June of 1992, six City water storage tanks were inspected on the
interior and the exterior by a consultant. By special proceedure a diver
is able to enter the tank and perform an inspection as to the conditon of
the coatings without the tank having to be emptied. The consultant
compiled a set of photos of the tanks as well as a record of observations
and recommended maintenance. The tanks reviewed are all in need of some
work to repair or replace the coatings on the interior and exterior.
This project represents correction of about half of the repairs needed.
Another project has been budgeted for and will be completed next year to
do repairs on the remaining tanks.
CONCURRENCES:
Community Development Department has given this project a categorical
exemption.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The engineer's estimate for this project is $100,000 including 10 percent
contingencies. A total of $95,000 was approved as a part of the 1993 -94
Budget to support the water storage tank repair project (1993 -95
Financial Plan, E -5). A total of $1,000 has been spent to date, leaving
a balance of $94,000 in this particular account to support the
recommended project. The additional $6,000 will be moved from the water
distribution improvements capital improvement project account, which
currently has $39,000 available for use.
