I routinely hear drivers at night using Orcutt/Tank Farm up through Johnson to Laurel as a place to floor it. I'm grateful that the city added the delineator posts for the turn onto Southwood to help address this, and has live speed monitoring near Laurel Ln, but speeding here is still a consistent issue for me whether I'm driving, pulling out of my driveway, walking on the sidewalk, or trying to enjoy peace and quiet in my home. Further, there are no designated crosswalks across Johnson between Orcutt and Laurel Lane, and people do not walk the half mile to find one when they need to cross. It's a blessing, though a precarious one, that no one has been killed attempting to cross here. What troubles me the most though, is that this is a family neighborhood with many children, my own included, and every time that my son goes outside to play I get quite anxious that someone is going to lose control at a speed that could cause serious injuries. Dozens of people jog and walk their dogs in this area daily as well. I defer to you as the experts for how to address this, but I'm outlining some suggestions here: - include Johnson Ave in the VIsion Zero Action Plan - conduct speed passive monitoring to confirm the scope of the problem - encourage police officers to conduct their occasional radar checks and ticketing on Johnson near Southwood - add beacon pedestrian crossing at Orcutt or Southwood - add a roundabout at Johnson & Orcutt (which would also help with rush hour traffic backing up far beyond the length of the turn lane on Johnson) Thank you for taking this into consideration and for serving our beautiful community! -Gina Papabeis 1
