SUBJECT :Item C7 — Tank Farm Road and Broad Street Widenin g
Below are responses to questions regarding the Tank Farm Road and Broad Street Widenin g
project :
What is the distance across this leg of Tank Farm Road that a pedestrian mus tcross with the widened intersection ?
In order to cross the proposed widened section of Tank Farm Road, pedestrians must cros stravel about 105 feet — This is the distance from ramp to ramp . The curb to curb distance i s88 feet, but because the curb ramps are on the corner radius, the crosswalk length i s
somewhat longer .
Can we/should we accommodate a pedestrian safety "island" into the design fo r
this leg ?
There is not adequate right of way on Tank Farm Road to provide for a pedestrian island o nTank Farm Road and to accomplish the objectives of the project in adding the necessar yvehicular travel lanes . Additionally, the raised median curb does not extend into th e
intersection — It begins about 105 feet from the crosswalk .
As far as the concept of providing a pedestrian refuge in the design of the project, it is to olate at this point to change the scope of the work without significant delay . I am not aware ofany discussion of such an idea during the design phase of this project, and Transportatio nstaff would have alerted us to this need long ago if a median was needed . Perhaps whe nadditional right of way is acquired on the north side of the street, and the final widening i s
completed, a wider median could then be extended to the intersection and such a media n
could include a pedestrian refuge .
