Subject:Message in support of the Vision Zero Action Plan
To whom it may concern,
My name is Lauren Giggy, I am resident of SLO County reaching out to encourage SLO City Council to
approve the Vision Zero Action plan. By numerous measures road safety measured by vehicle collisions
and fatalities have steadily increased in the past 5 years highlighting emerging gaps in the City of SLO’s
infrastructure. The Fatal Bike Collision Rate per 100,000 Population (see "Comparison of Bicycle and
Pedestrian Traffic Fatality Rates by Jurisdiction" pg. 54) is particularly concerning, especially when
compared to other regions where residents also report high bike mode share, such as Santa Cruz County
and many regions in the SF Bay Area. The initial data from SLO, as well as numerous other studies in
other cities, show that the types of recommendations presented in the Vision Zero Action plan are
effective in improving road safety for all users, including vehicle drivers, bus user, bicyclists, and
pedestrians.
Thanks for your time and consideration,
Lauren Giggy
