HomeMy WebLinkAbout5/19/2026 Item 6b, Stone Sage Stone < To:E-mail Council Website Subject:Public Comment for City Council Meeting 5/19 Item 6.b 2026 VISION ZERO ACTION PLAN Council Members, I write to support adopting the 2026 Vision Zero Action Plan. Vision Zero is one step in the right direction to make walking, biking, and using public transit safer. I understand the focus on remedying the High Injury Network (HIN), which I support, though I also ask that special consideration be made for school zones. Many of the routes to schools and drop off areas around schools, including CL Smith where my kids go, are lacking in basic speed controls and high visibility crosswalks. In CL Smith’s example, during peak hours, impatient drivers make aggressive maneuvers and speed in the streets around and in front of CL Smith. A lack of safety measures compounds the problem because parents and children feel unsafe to take alternative modes of transportation like walking and biking and so they turn to driving. I’d ask the Council to direct that Safe Routes to School corridors be a top focus when allocating Vision Zero and Active Transportation Plan priorities. Thank you, Sage Stone Parent 1
