Subject:Overlay zone for fraternity / sorority houses
To the San Luis Obispo City Council
We are totally against the overlay zone that has been proposed for the city to allow fraternity and sorority
houses. This can not and should not happen. We have lived on the North side of town, off of Foothill, for 56
years. It is the most beautiful area of town but in the last few years there has been a complete disregard for
the families that still make up this area or town. Cal Ply influence seems to supersede the quality of living in
this neighborhood. More and more properties are being bought up by investors, because of the proximity to Cal
Poly. Then ADU units and additional homes are added to the existing properties, filling them with up to 10
students without needing to provide parking. This is all done for profit. These properties are changing the
whole make up and quality of this residential area. Young famiies can no longer compete with the investor
greed and Cal Poly influence. And now you want to add fraternities and sororities too! There are enough party
houses as it is and we don’t need anymore mini dorms in our neighborhoods. Please consider the impact this
will have on the families that live in this area if you pass this.
