COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT RE N
Iu
FROM: Michael D. McCluskey, Public Works Director g y I
SUBJECT: Mission Plaza Expansion Budget
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize use of$100,000 from the open space acquisition budget to pay for remaining costs
of the Mission Plaza Expansion acquisition
BACKGROUND:
The City is acquiring portions of three properties on the Monterey Street side of San Luis
Obispo Creek between Broad and Nipomo for expansion of Mission Plaza. So far the City
has acquired one parcel and will soon acquire the remaining two. The acquisition budget is
currently overspent by $32,000, and remaining acquisition costs should amount to about
$100,000. Also, about $20,000 is needed to prepare design and construction documents for
the planned expansion, which may include paths, retaining walls, and fences to accommodate
and control pedestrian access to the area.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The 1993/95 Financial Plan designates a $50,000 capital outlay fund appropriation for
Mission Plaza Improvements in 1994/95. This appropriation will cover the existing $32,000
deficit in the project budget and leave $18,000 for design services.
i
An additional $100,000 is needed for remaining acquisition costs. Staff recommends using
money from the open space acquisition budget to pay these costs. The current balance in the
open space acquisition budget is $888,000.
CONCURRENCES:
The City Attorney and Finance Director concur in this recommendation.
