There is no way for Cal Poly or SLO police to monitor and keep fraternity students safe when they are in these satellite homes. The changes in the IFC proposal grants them further freedoms to participate in rowdy and unsafe behavior that is disrupting our neighborhoods and making unsafe situations more dangerous and risky. While I do not live in the immediate Cal Poly vicinity , I do live very close to many neighborhood homes that now cater to student housing. I believe the current proposals supported by 1 the IFC deserve careful consideration because their impacts will extend far beyond the neighborhoods adjacent to campus. Decisions that allow expanded group living arrangements in traditionally single- family areas could permanently alter the character of residential neighborhoods throughout the city. Once these precedents are established, they rarely remain limited to one part of town. If Greek organizations require larger or specialized housing accommodations, Cal Poly should provide appropriate facilities on university property, similar to the dedicated Greek housing models used at many other campuses. It does not seem reasonable for surrounding residential neighborhoods to absorb the long-term consequences of university-related housing demand and housing for fraternity business and events. I strongly urge the Council to preserve existing neighborhood protections and ensure that responsibility for student organization housing remains with the university itself. Thank you for your consideration. Julia Starkey Almond St. 2
