Subject:Overlay Zone regarding Fraternities and Sororities
Dear Council members,
I'm certain you've read the Overlay zoning proposal submitted by Joshua Pinsky and Eliran Solomon. I'll preview one
of my comments tonight and the first point is about Radical Honesty. I thought I was going to have to explain
where an overlay zone for fraternities and sororities would lead but I don't have to now because Joshua Pinsky
and Eliran Solomon laid it out in a Radically Honest way. They are telling you exactly what they want and
exactly what their vision is for an overlay zone- and what they envision those neighborhoods to become.
I respect their honesty; however, you've got to see just how crazy this idea really is. How "we" have gotten to
this point is fascinating. There are parts and pieces to this puzzle laying all over the place. Cal Poly withholding
the addresses to approved sanctioned events. The police department receiving those addresses weekly from
Cal Poly but not passing them along to Code Enforcement when they knew that Code Enforcement was trying
to verify the events. A Grand Jury report that detailed the shortcomings of the City's enforcement of our
zoning regulations making the neighborhood near Cal Poly nearly unlivable for residents. Meetings between
staff and Cal Poly officials about creating some kind of overlay zone at Cal Poly's behest. As Council members
you should be asking about those meetings and what was being intimated to Cal Poly staff. What was that
phone call about with Courtney Kienow, President Armtrong and the City Manager about. And why was Mayor
Stewart on standby? And there's a bunch of other pieces that are out there needed to put this whole mess
into a coherent picture.
You as Council Members need to make it abundantly clear-- No Hedging-Stating it Plainly.
Say clearly and publicly that the Overlay Zone is dead. Not “studied.” Not “explored.” Not “considered.” Dead.
Sincerely,
Brett Cross
